Het blijft toch lastig .. tellen .. ;)
In 1906 gingen er stemmen op om nog een sleeppont aan te schaffen, maar nu voor de Zwijndrechtsche verbinding. Sinds ca 1880 voer er op de Zwijndrechtse verbinding al een stalen sleeppont, maar men waardeerde hem 36 jaar later als te klein en te gevaarlijk. Voor de verbinding met Papendrecht waren er alweer plannen voor een grotere stoompont waardoor de sleeppont daar zou komen te vervallen. De tegenstanders waren in de minderheid en het voorstel tot aankoop van een nieuwe sleeppont op Zwijndrecht, welke werd begroot op 4000 gulden, werd aangenomen. Op de foto rechts op de voorgrond een man staand op de Merwekade nabij het veersteiger. Vervolgens rechts het Wantij met daarachter weer het oefengebied met materiaalopslag van de Pontonniers op de Punt van de Staart. En natuurlijk de Veerdienst I met de nieuwe aanwinst achter zich, afkoersend op de Dordtse oever.
